Ιστορίες μιας βουλγάρας φορτηγατζούς -μέρος 1

Επειδή αυτό το blog δεν έχει ούτε ενημερωτικό καθαρά, ούτε κανέναν άλλο φοβερό και τρομερό σκοπό, παρά μόνο την ψυχαγωγία της υποφαινομένης και των επισκεπτών της, ήρθε η ώρα να πούμε μερικές ιστορίες... Σαν τον παλιό καλό καιρό (το κάθισμα γύρω από τη φωτιά είναι προαιρετικό, όπως βολεύεται ο καθένας!). Πάμε λοιπόν:
Μια ωραία πρωία, η Σνέζι συνειδητοποίησε ότι μπορούσε να αλλάξει τη ζωή της και να ξεφύγει από την καταπίεση του πατέρα της και τον έλεγχο που ασκούσε πάνω της όλη η κλειστή κοινωνία του χωριού στο οποίο ζούσε. Το χωριό της ήταν λίγο πιο έξω από μια μεγάλη πόλη, αλλά ήταν λες και ο χρόνος είχε σταματήσει κάπου στα 1955. Το κορίτσι της ιστορίας μας όμως ήταν γεννημένο για μεγάλα πράγματα, για αλλιώτικη ζωή -ή τουλάχιστον έτσι ήθελε να πιστεύει. Με έντονα τα χαρακτηριστικά της φυλής της στην καλύτερή τους έκδοσή, η Σνέζι (από το Σνέζενα, που σημαίνει Χιονάτη στα βουλγαρικά, υπέροχο όνομα για κορασίδα) ξεχώριζε από τα περισσότερα κορίτσια: είχε πλούσια καστανά μαλλιά, σώμα λυγερό και καλοφτιαγμένο, έντονες καμπύλες (μόνο εκεί που έπρεπε, φυσικά!) και πρόσωπο αγγελικό. Στο βλέμμα της ήταν ευανάγνωστος ο πόθος της φυγής.... Εκείνη την ωραία πρωία λοιπόν που λέγαμε στην αρχή, όταν πλησίαζε τα 20 της χρόνια, της δόθηκε μια μοναδική ευκαιρία: ο ξάδερφός της ο Ίλκου (ελληνιστί Λιάκος), οδηγός νταλίκας επί αρκετά χρόνια, χρειαζόταν συνοδηγό για ένα μεγάλο ταξίδι που είχε να κάνει σε όλη σχεδόν την Ευρώπη. Μεγάλο και δύσκολο το ταξίδι, πολλές οι ώρες στο τιμόνι, ο Ίλκου γνώριζε τους κινδύνους της δουλειάς όταν τον κατέβαλλε η κούραση, μετά από ατελείωτα χιλιόμετρα στις ευρωπαϊκές αούτομπαν, μόνος, χωρίς μια ψυχή να του πει μια κουβέντα να τον αφυπνίσει. Το κορίτσι πάντα έλεγε πόσο πολύ ήθελε να ταξιδέψει, καμμία σοβαρή δουλειά δεν την απασχολούσε εκείνο το διάστημα -όπως και όλο το προηγούμενο βέβαια, αφού δεν είχε εργαστεί ποτέ εκτός σπιτιού, παρά μόνο ασχολούνταν με τα ζωντανά που διατηρούσε ο πατέρας της-, οι γονείς δεν έφεραν φοβερές αντιρρήσεις, αφού και μόνο η παρουσία του μεγάλου ξαδέρφου θα απέτρεπε οποιονδήποτε τολμούσε να πλησιάσει τη σύγχρονη Χιονάτη μας. Έτσι, όλα ήρθαν ευνοϊκά και η μικρή αλλά τολμηρή και φιλόδοξη Σνέζι θα έβγαινε για πρώτη φορά έξω από τη χώρα που την ανάθρεψε, με τόσες στερήσεις.....

A little more "Pain"....

Biography To be able to reveal the roots of Swedish Pain of Salvation, we have to go back to 1984 when vocalist/guitarist Daniel Gildenlow formed the band Reality at the mere age of 11. Despite their youth they received attention in Swedish media because of their musical capacity.

1988: Mikael Pettersson, Daniel Magdic, Daniel Gildenlow, Joakim Strandberg At the fall of 1987 Reality qualify to the Swedish Annual Music Contest "Rock-SM" (the same contest that made Swedish “Europe” big in the early eighties) as the youngest competitors ever. Daniel Gildenlow also wins the prize for Best Vocalist. The same year the band attends the Beatles festival, also as the youngest participators. In 1990 the band sees some member shifts, as Magnus Johansson replaces Joakim at the bass, and Johan Langell (then 14 years old) replaces the former drummer Mikael, as key composers Gildenlöw/Magdic finds it difficult to fully implement their ideas. Magnus Johansson leaves the band and is replaced by Gustaf Hielm (known from Meshuggah).

1990: Magnus Johansson, Mikael Pettersson, Daniel Gildenlow, Daniel Magdic 1991.The band is performing live as ”Pain of Salvation” for the first time, and between '91 and '94 the band has some national success throughout several contests and competitions, being finalists at worst and winners of most, always awarded for their musical capability, varied material and vocal arrangements. Some of the songs from this time can actually be found on "Entropia" (Nightmist, Oblivion Ocean) and as Japanese bonus tracks on "One Hour by the Concrete Lake". In December 1994, Daniel Gildenlow’s younger brother Kristoffer (then 16 years old) replaces Gustaf Hielm at the bass. At this time, Pain of Salvation still seek to complete their now well-working band with a keyboard player – but no one seems to fit their needs.

1997: Fredrik Hermansson, Daniel Magdic, Daniel Gildenlow, Kristoffer Gildenlow, Johan Langell It takes to fall 1996 to find the keyboard player they want, and with Fredrik Hermansson (then 20 years old) Pain of Salvation is finally complete. They immediately enter a local studio to record a demo, using both old and new material. Throughout the preceding years, Pain of Salvation had recorded several tapes, but for the first time ever they actually sends it to record companies, as they finally are satisfied enough with the results. Perfectionists already. The first two companies that the band sends their demo to – Marquee/Belle Antique (Japan/Asia) and Roasting House (Sweden) – are both very positive, and in early 1997, Pain of Salvation records their first album ”Entropia” at the Roasting House Studio in Malmoe. It is released in Asia in August 1997, but the European fans had to wait for it until 1999. The album receives great reviews all around the world.

1998: Fredrik Hermansson, Daniel Gildenlow, Kristoffer Gildenlow, Johan Langell, Johan Hallgren In January 1998, just one month before the recording of "One Hour by the Concrete Lake," Daniel Magdic and the rest of the band, after some months of disagreement, decides to go separate ways. Johan Hallgren is asked to play on the album and he faces the superhuman task of learning all the songs on such short notice, but it works out so well that he becomes a full member of the band. "One Hour by the Concrete Lake" is released in Asia late 1998, in Europe in early 1999 and in USA late 1999. This "master-piece" is highly praised (100/100 in Holland's biggest music magazine) and is the main reason for Pain of Salvation being signed by the well-known record company InsideOut and later on their US equivalent InsideOut America, formed by Dream Theater's former manager Jim Pitulski. They go on a three-week European tour in March 1999, together with British "Threshold" and Italian "Eldritch".

Pain of Salvation, 2000 After a year of good reviews, and a co-headline show at the Dutch ProgPower festival in the fall of 1999, the band starts to put together new material for their third album. They begin to record the material in late February 2000 and the album is finished in June. Daniel makes all the artwork and multimedia work for this large concept album, which is released in September 2000, when they are on tour with Arena (UK). During that same tour, in Barcelona, Daniel falls and breaks two fingers on his left hand pretty bad. Nevertheless, the band fulfills the tour, actually playing more shows than originally planned. The photo(s) above are taken during the last show of the tour, in Amsterdam, Holland. Note the cast on Daniel's arm. Recently, Pain of Salvation headlined the ProgPower USA festival on the 24th of February, and will headline the Dream Theater Fan Club Convention in Paris, May 19th. Later this year they will play at the Dutch Dynamo festival, the US Powermad and at ProgPower Europe in Holland (as headliners). They will also do some touring in the world.

Κι επειδή είναι δύσκολο έργο, χρονοβόρο και βαρύ να φορτώνεις φωτογραφίες με μια απλή dial -up σύνδεση, υπάρχει και η συνέχεια.... Soon enough I hope!

Καρνάβαλοι όλου του κόσμου ενωθείτε! Δεν ειπώθηκε αλλά σιωπηρά φαίνεται να ήχησε το σύνθημα και την Παρασκευή που πέρασε, στην Υδρόγειο, μαζεύτηκε πλήθος μασκαράδων, οι πλείστοι εκ των οποίων είχαν το απαραίτητο κέφι και τη διάθεση για πάρτυ.... Τώρα, το αν το αποτέλεσμα τελικά ικανοποίησε άπαντες ή όχι δε μπορώ να το γνωρίζω, εγώ πάντως διέκρινα αρκετές καλές στιγμές κεφιού και χαράς στην όλη βραδιά, που για μένα τουλάχιστον τερματίστηκε με ένα χαμόγελο ικανοποίησης. Θα ήμουν ευτυχής βέβαια αν συμφωνούσατε, αλλά και αν όχι δεν πειράζει, πάλι φίλοι θα είμαστε! Και όσοι όμως δε μπόρεσαν να παραβρεθούν, για πολύ σοβαρούς λόγους -είμαι βέβαιη!-, θα πρέπει να πάρουν μια ιδέα για ορισμένες φάσεις τουλάχιστον. Παρακαλώ, να είστε επιεικείς στα σχόλια για τις μεταμφιέσεις εμού και των συναδέλφων μου (κ. Βλάχο, είσαστε χάρμα οφθαλμών! -και μην ακούσω κανένα σχόλιο για το πράσινο φουστανάκι μου που με έκανε να δείχνω σαν μπάλα, θα δαγκώσω! γγγγγγγγρρρρρ!). Στην επόμενη χοροεσπερίδα του 1055 -αν και όποτε τέλος πάντων συμβεί- θα παρακαλούσα να είσαστε ολίγον τι πιο εκδηλωτικοί, δε θα βλάψει κανέναν, σας διαβεβαιώ! Υγιαίνετε!

Ξεφεύγοντας από το θέμα της Απόκριας και της μεταμφίεσης, έχω να μοιραστώ μαζί σας φωτογραφίες και σχόλια για τη συναυλία των Sinnerboy που έγινε την Παρασκευή, 9 Φλεβάρη στην Υδρόγειο. Μόλις σήμερα τις παρέλαβα από τον καλό φίλο Κώστα που διατέλεσε χρέη φωτογράφου εκείνο το βράδυ, οπότε σχωρνάτε μου την καθυστέρηση! Ωραίοι οι Ιρλανδοί, που ήρθαν να τιμήσουν τον αδικοχαμένο συμπατριώτη τους Rory, με ταμπεραμέντο και πολύ διάθεση για πάρτυ (και πολλές μπύρες φυσικά, έχασα το λογαριασμό, μην τα ρωτάτε!). Φοβερά προπονημένοι βέβαια, δεν είναι και καινούριοι στο κουρμπέτ, αλλά αυτό που πάνω απ'όλα έβγαζαν είναι ψυχή... ψυχή και πολύ μεράκι και για τα συγκεκριμένα τραγούδια αλλά και για το fun της όλης υπόθεσης του live. Και σε πολλά σημεία η φωνή του τραγουδιστή και κιθαρίστα τους θύμιζε πολύ τον αείμνηστο! Κι άλλα τέτοια εύχομαι, και άντε, περιμένω τους επόμενους Ιρλανδούς (tribute band στους Lizzy βέβαια!).

Hello again! Νομίζω είναι καιρός να αρχίσω να γράφω στα ελληνικά πλέον, καθώς αυτό το συγκεκριμένο blog δεν έχει ιδιαίτερες βλέψεις για διεθνή καριέρα! Αν ακούτε ραδιόφωνο γενικά, σίγουρα ξέρετε ήδη αρκετά για την ιδιοσυγκρασία του ατόμου που δημιούργησε αυτή τη σελιδούλα -μια σταγόνα στον ωκεανό που λέγεται διαδίκτυο και τίποτα παραπάνω. Αν πάλι όχι, είναι καιρός να συντονιστείτε! Σαββατοκύριακο, 6-9 μ.μ., 105,5 FM για τους μη έχοντες γνώσιν. Εκτός αυτού όμως, και όπως θα δείτε και στο πλήρες προφίλ παρακάτω, η υπογράφουσα ασχολείται με αρκετά άλλα πραγματάκια κατά καιρούς. Τη συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή λοιπόν κάνει την κακιά δασκάλα σε μια ομάδα σπουδαστών φωτογραφίας σε ιδιωτικό ΙΕΚ και τους διδάσκει Ιστορία της Τέχνης (τρομάρα της αλλά τέλος πάντων, μάλλον απλά βγάζει τα σαδιστικά της κρυμμένα ένστικτα!!!). Επίσης ενίοτε ασχολείται και με μεταφράσεις κειμένων από την αγγλική εις την ελληνικήν (τον τίτλο του τελευταίου βιβλίου πάντως που μετέφρασα δεν πρόκειται ούτε με κινέζικο βασανιστήριο να αποκαλύψω, η αιδώς είναι πολύ μεγάλη! Και το προηγούμενο βιβλίο όμως δεν πήγαινε πίσω.....). Με σοβαρά λογοτεχνικά κείμενα ασχολείται πάντως, αυτό είναι γεγονός! (φυσικά εννοώ ότι διαβάζω κάποια, όχι ότι μεταφράζω τέτοια!). Άλλοτε πάλι, όταν υπάρχει χρόνος και διάθεση (και πενία, που ως γνωστόν "τέχνας κατεργάζεται") παραδίδει και μαθήματα σε φερέλπιδες νεανίσκους και νεανίδες (κοινώς ασχολείται και με την παραπαιδεία, καλό φρούτο η κυρία!!!). Α, και όταν προκύψει, κάνει και καμμία αρχαιολογική ανασκαφή, έτσι για τη δόξα βρε παιδί μου! (γιατί όποιον κι αν ρωτήσετε θα σας πει ότι αν δεν έχεις μια μόνιμη θεσούλα σε κάποια εφορεία αρχαιοτήτων ή στο ΥΠ.ΠΟ., το να είσαι -ή να ισχυρίζεσαι ότι είσαι- αρχαιολόγος, τη σήμερον ημέρα, είναι σαν να λες απλά ένα χόμπυ σου, κάτι σαν το "μου αρέσει και το ψάρεμα, ναι, πάω και σε καμμιά ανασκαφή άμα λάχει"!). Αυτά τα ολίγα προς ώρας!

To introduce myself better, I have to let you know about things I do and things I love to do. Please allow me to start from the ones I love to do. As you will have seen already, the first link I have "pined-up" is the one of a radio station, 1055ROCK, which is where I express myself for the last 5,5 years. You should probably take a look for yourselves to get an idea about it, as well as listen to my show every weekend, 6-9 pm!
And now, family intro: maybe it is not the typical idea of what people call "my babies", but these two ARE indeed my babies (you can laugh as much as you like about the characterization). Voila!

For those who already know me in person, no need to introduce myself. But, hoping more people will sometime visit this blog area, I have to say a couple of stuff about me.
